Whilst primarily a steam enthusiast, I could not resist the prospect of viewing 5 serviceable Deltics at the The East Lancs Railway's "Deltic Gathering"
Footage is from Sunday 16 October, filmed around Summerseat and Irwell Vale
55002 Kings Own Yorksire Light Infantry
55022 Royal Scots Gey
D9009 Alycidion
55019 Royal Highland Fusileer
D9016 Gordon Highlander
A shuttle also ran between Bury and Ramsbottom using Class 40 D5335

  • Mike thank you for this good time. Philippe

  • @PhilbruProduction Merci Philippe. Fumées de diesel ne sont pas aussi agréable que la vapeur, mais il ya quelque chose de spécial Deltics.

  • An excellent film of the mighty deltics. Thet really were god's gift to rail fans. Thank you for sharing.

  • @apachenoise Many thanks for viewing and your comments. Hard to believe how old these fine machines are. Mike

  • I enjoyed this very much. It brought back memories of Durham City all but 30 years ago.

The Magnificent Seven event at Shildon was tremendous of course but it's great to see them working a train albeit a short slow one. The closest Locomotion got was Royal Scot Grey's spirited start leaving Shildon on the Tuesday morning with the four other Deltics in tow seen by a few early birds at which was...

    ...Well- ruddy marvellous frankly.

  • @TimRuffle Many thanks for your kind comments. Like you I recall trips behind these fine locos in the latter days before withdrawal. Couldnt make Shildon. Perhaps the ELR will be encouraged to repeat this event sometime, and although we'll probably never see the prototype Deltic in action again, there's still one more to hopefully run again

  • @rab4472 Actually I was born and brought up in the Midlands (Gresley Was Right territory), didn't see a Deltic until I first went to Durham and rode behind one only once in service. I lived in Durham for the last six months or so of their BR lives but with a perfect view of the ECML all the way from the station to the bottom of Red Hills cutting. It's uphill from the station so any train starting from there has work to do. Needless to say the Deltics made quite an impression.

  • @robmasterman Many thanks Bob. You're absolutely right - although I don't recommend inhaling exhaust fumes, lol

  • @khankadet Thank you Chris, appreciate the comments. Let's hope this weekend's steam gala is as good. Mike
