Intel just released version 2 of their Linux-based Moblin OS. It is an open source project meant for Atom based Netbooks. I installed it in Virtualbox using 256 megs of ram and a 4 gig hard drive. They use what they call the "Fastboot" feature to get started quickly. As you can see it boots in about 12 seconds. They are currently using XFCE as the user interface but they say the final version will use something else and look completely different. A Live CD is available at Moblin.org.

  • Hmm. Did you install flash or did it work out of the box for you?

I had tons of errors and issues on getting anything install with the Alpha release. Not a big suprize though.

Can't wait for the full version hopefully it doesn't get bloated

  • No, i had to install it. I've only played around with it a little bit. I didn't really try to install anything else. If you want a good OS for a netbook try gOS gadgets. Moblin is still in development so it's not gonna work properly yet.

  • Awesome. I will give gOS a shot. I've been hunting for something for my netbook for awhile. I'm using Foresight Mobile right now and hate it! I just can't seem to find something that will just run smoothly linux wise and not to interested in going back to windows. I feel the need to immerse myself in linux so that I can get more of a feel of how it works. I don't know everything but I know enough to get by. I will give it a shot thou thanks!

  • No problem. If you like it, add a comment to my gOS video.

  • jolicloud is best os 4 netbook

  • Ubuntu 9.04 with ext4 filesystem and LXDE as the default environment seems best (and most simple) for my netbook. Blazing fast, too.

  • Why not Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook remix?

  • I will totally do so man! Thx again for the help. I'm burning the ISO now for it.
