Gotta love Kermode

2001: A Space Odyssey was made in the mid-'60s and I find it even more convincing than any modern sci-fi flick (or any "movie") in 3D.

If you close one eye, you still see in 3D...

Oy.
Yes, that's true, if you want to be ultra-anal about it, I used that phrase in the wrong manner.
But at the same time, it is an idiom popularly used in that manner, whether right or wrong, so you and anybody else who read my post understood my meaning.
But seriously though, thank you for bringing it to my attention. Very worthwhile indeed.

it's amazing how dramatic the godfather was considering the technological limits of the time only allowed for the producers to make a drama about differently sized people

In pretty much all the 3D movies I've seen the scripts have been horribly lazy (Avatar a prime example; Toy Story 3 the exception which proves the rule) probably because the filmmakers know we'll be so 'dazzled' by the imagery we won't be paying much attention to the plot.
So in my opinion, 3D is detrimental to the plot.

I hate to say it, but 3D is only good for kid's movies and IMAX documentary shit about dolphins or K2. Before somebody points out Avatar was nominated for best picture, I'll remind you Avatar is basically an IMAX kid's movie.
if loving Kermode is wrong, I don't want to be right.
