Just a short version of "Going To California" by Led Zeppelin. John Paul Jones plays the mandolin on this song from the "Untitled" album from 1971. I rented the mandolin for a month for $17. It's an Epiphone MM-20. This was almost the first time I played the mandolin. I just learned this one tune and recorded it. Enjoy and subscribe!

Here's where I got the tabs: http://www.mandolincafe.com/tab/gotocal.txt

The song was apparently written about Joni Mitchell.

  • Hey! 10,000 views. Thanks for watching everyone! :)

  • john paul jones uses the regular tuning (E A D G) to play this music? and what about to 'That's The Way'?

  • @gva128 I believe so. Jimmy was the one with all the different tunings. I don't know of any other ways JPJ used the mandolin.

  • @4Ihavegot Thank you, my friend! I didn't kown that Jimmy used to play the mandolin in Led Zeppelin too. So, in 'Earls Court' John Paul Jones is the one that plays it. His mando is tuning in the regular way?

  • @gva128 I meant that Jimmy used different tunings on his guitar. Jimmy only played mandolin on "The Battle Of Evermore". John Paul Jones plays the mandolin on all the others. But I don't think he used different tunings.

  • @4Ihavegot ook, I understand... So, there's a video of Paul Gilbert and John Paul Jones playing a instrumental version of 'Going to California'. If you want to check it out...

  • @gva128 I've seen that, it's a beautiful rendition!

  • they have a pretty decent mandolin on musician's friend for about $50, im totally getting one! i cant wait!

  • Fantastic job! I love this song. I'm getting a mandolin soon and was wondering if you or anyone else could help me find tunes like this for the mandolin? I already play guitar (4 years and loving it) so the difficulty shouldn't matter too much. Thankyou, and keep up the good work!

  • beautiful song
