Intel, EMC, Dell and IBM are collaborating to make a PCI-E SSD standard. PCI-E is a better interface than Serial which is currently used for Hard Drives. Solid State storage has a lot more potential than the current Hard Drives.

PCI-E + Solid State = ownage

Unfortunately there are some bugs that need to be worked out, but in time they probably will be. (mainly deriving from read/write limits)

  • Con: NAND flash fails like nobody's business.

  • @Bitwzyze They currently have 3+ year warranties on the newer ones - eventually they'll be as good as hard drives.

  • @wartex8

Little flaw in vid they dont use North-South Bridge anymore there is a faster alternative that is faster i just cant remeber names but AMD and Intel now use that as it is alot quicker

  • @At0m1ct3rr0r thanks for the info.

  • con: spensive

  • @ApplyPieable yah. I talked about that, but eventually it's not going to be a problem. (CD drives when they came out cost like $1000!)

  • i wonder if there is a way to periodically check the data on a SSD against a hard disc backup or other way for the consumer to know how much life is left in the SSD? it just seems so fragile. : ?

  • it's interesting & BOARING at the same time: please man; add a little bit more life to your voice!

  • I love my Revodrive X2!

  • you didnt do bad especially for your first tech video. intel is also developing another technology which replaces mosft of the circuitry with diodes and fiber optics, significanty speeding a computer and like atomic had stated this diagram is outdated the north and south bridges now work more in unison but the old serial interface it's self is dated but has come a long way. and the read/write issue you talked about is thrashing and the drives are being developed to not do that.

  • lets not forget about ocz who is the first one to develop this technology?

  • Keep it up you're really good at doing "tech-talks" !!!!!!!!!
