This segment demonstrates a simple adjustment to the popular pentatonic fingering while creating a different sound. It's a simple way of breaking out of a rut and adding another option to your soloing repertoire. Gypsy Jazz legend Django Rheinhart used this technique.

  • I didn't like Gary Potter... I LOVED watching him play. There are quite a few videos that feature him and I enjoyed those too. Thank you for introducing me to Gary Potter's music.

  • It's a scale pattern that Django used to improvise with. It reminds me of a pentatonic scale because of the 2-notes-per-string pattern and that's why I call it the Django Pentatonic.
