They should have raced the TWO STROKE Mercury Optimax's instead of the heavy FOUR STROKE Verado's and same with the Yamaha's four strokes and the two stroke vmax's. Kind of unfair to race the heavy four stroke models when both Yamaha and Mercury have amazing two stroke models. Now if the evinrude's could beat the optimax and vmax i would be impressed. I would be even more impressed if it could beat the mercury racing 225 sport xs. So evinrude up for the challenge?

@mano266 The Yamaha was a 2 stroke. It was an HPDI. I agree, these "tests" by evinrude are BS in my opinion

250 Verado:-656NM at 4000

250 E-TEC:-575NM at 3091

250 Suzuki:-313NM at 4500

250 Yamaha:-303NM at 4000

From the Epa engine tests, here is the result Evinrude wont tell you.

1. The evinrude was a H.O, The Verados didn't come in a sport model until 2010.

2.The evinrude had a performance gearcase, the others didnt.

3. The verado was slowest to get out of the water because it is forurstroke but once it closed the gap between it and the yamaha quickly

4. Put that e tec up against the Aussie ski race team Silent Black with their 1800s and 250 Verado sport, it would blow them all away, pulling two skiers acrorss a line at 102 mph isnt easy.

@jdp2786 Exactly what I what I was thinking. I just wish that the race was fair could I could actually see which one was better. I like merc's but that doesn't mean that if a better motor came out I wouldn't buy it. So in truth this video disappointed me.

@mano266 I totally agree! Merc has a much better offering than Evinrude depending on what a person is looking for. Like you said, throw a 225 Optimax and a 225 pro xs in and then see how this turns out. I think Evinrude makes a good motor but is much more limited than Merc.

cant count a 4 stroke supercharged for mercury. Give it the pro xs and watch it blow the evinrude away

Dumbass. They compare it to the 4 strokes because despite the differences, they're most comparable in fuel efficiency. Evinrude is proving you can get ALL the advantages of a 4 stroke and the benefits of a 2 stroke in 1 engine, and that's what the E-TEC does.
