@t11169 actually the thing I point to is how the Ghost just comes right out with it. In the Patrick Stewart version, which I much prefer, Scrooge notices something underneath the Ghost's robe first and Then the ghost whips the kids out.

I don't understand why it sounds "so wrong" and why all of these comments miss the point. This passage is exactly taken from the book. Dickens advocated education and taking care of poor children -- because they grow into adults and the problems become much worse. That is why the Ghost says to beware them -- Ignorance and Want. Beautiful story -- nothing "wrong" about it.

This scene is described exactly in the book as it is portrayed here. The Ghost of Christmas Present is exactly that -- a ghost! I cannot comprehend these silly remarks about pedophilia? what the heck? The 2 children are called Ignorance and Want. The ghost explains that they are products of a society that doesn't care for the less fortunate. So even though everyone is making merry -- they are still there and he is making us aware of that.
