Like most my recent vids that show significant change, Im going to walk through my thought process briefly (yes, I said briefly), on how I came up w/ this particular setup & methods
1) GP's maximization on the 1st completion of my guide, did not have the DA. His setup was a MW
(Attack / Musou / Charge / Fill / Speed)
& items
(Tiger Amulet / Green Scroll / True Way of Musou / Wind Scroll / Way of Musou)
1st flaw here is TM & the risks involved w/ the ending. There's no problem when mastered against officers in light crowds, but where problems are unavoidable are in very dense crowds, or multiple officers.
The multiple officer scenario is easy to see. Control of GP's Mus is pretty much strictly limited to 1 opponent. Connecting w/ the ending against 1 opponent is easy, but like Wei Yan's TM ending, GP's has a long recovery time. It's long enough to receive unavoidable hits when you miss w/ it or when an officer blocks it. So it being nearly impossible to be useful against multiple opponents, the risks become increasingly high as the number of officers go up.
Shouldn't be hard to see that the slash just before the ending blast of his TM has very short reach & range. It's easy to connect w/ it against officers in light crowds, but it's not consistently possible against officers in dense crowds, & this is bc of what I call Unwanted Displacement. Each object on screen takes up 3D space. What happens in really dense crowds is that peons approaching from all directions compact the crowd further, & this compaction causes numerous chains of random displacements, which are just small shifts. Here are some examples: Pushing the other player in 2P mode, pushing a horse, how Zhou Tai's Mus may end up missing bc it's planted & officers being displaced outside of his reach due to dense crowds)
Another thing is that, w/ this setup, there isn't much of a good way to deal decent dmg. C4 requires Ice to deal loads of harsh dmg, but relying on this makes his offense pretty non-existent against officers in large crowds, bc his C4 is a scattering attack. What this limitation means is that in order for his C4 to actually hit an officer it has to ... hit the officer & not hit peons into the officer, but of course, GP's LW attacking speed & reach can't allow this, let alone w/ a MW. C3 only works at a distance. C6 is very useful actually, but using C6 to set fire & then using GP's Mus isn't much of a fast offense if you compare it to the 1 in this vid right? C6 is in fact inconsistent in massive crowds, like Shi Ting.
2) MW setup same as above w/ DA in place of the Way of Mus after speculating that it's not good for defensive reasons.
So what do the DA do for GP?
DA allow GP to abuse C4 w/ Ice strategies, bc if an officer is frozen it's 4 consecutive charge attacks at x2 dmg, = impressive. GP's C4 w/out the DA suffers a lot from long recovery time. Any player who's tried abusing C4 w/ Ice in Shi Ting knows that it's nonsense. There's limited writing for YT so Im not going to decribe it in detail here, but from the permutations possible w/ his C4 in terms of scattering, recovery cancellation w/ his Jump Attack is almost always easy or possible, & using the fact that officers get up before peons do, this allows GP now to effectively isolate officers to make a C4+Ice strategy a reality.
Going from MW to LW requires more depth of explanation:
- the increase in attack speed is significant. The testing w/ a MW & DA showed that canceling his C4 execution is possible, but capitalizing on the officer after the C4 to attempt the next C4 & Ice is not always possible, & still a huge disadvantage in massive crowds as if the DA had no benefits. LW attacking speed is fast enough to allow GP to almost always be able to make at most, his second C4 attempt be the one to hit the officer. It should be easy to see in the vid that a lot of instances where C4 worked, would otherwise not have worked with a MW.
- C4 w/ MW is indeed a lot stronger, but C4 w/ LW attacking speed finishes far earlier than MW attacking speed, which means w/ a LW, there are more x2 dmg strikes cause by his Mus (after C4 last slash), so comparing all dmg done when an officer is frozen, MW is still better than LW, but it's not a big difference at all.
- so going to a LW doesn't lose much offensive dmg, but gains a lot of consistency & flexibility
