@SC2Slyphen The pressure applied should be pretty similar to any plane you see in the sky. And with aviation technology in mind, the idea is not so bad. The lanes have to be longer than I could imagine, though (maybe as long as the Trannsib), like the trans-atlantic lane some guys have in mind.

SC2Slyphen maglev's don't NEED a vacuum tunnel, its only for reaching speeds above the 500-1000 KM range, as somebody also mentioned in the comments, but as i said, the problem is not speed, but speed wise, the maglev is 100 of times better than a car.

The inventor of maglev was Henry Kolm, he and Bruce Montgomery who worked with him on many projects at MIT, after decades of trying to get funding from the US Department of Transportation and being shot down each time by Republican misadministrations, wound up dealing with China to go beyond lab experiments into full scale development and production.... It's NOT tech stolen from the Germans. Kolm -invented- it, along with angioplasty, rail guns, mass drivers...
