Also, got to handle a 5.11 Journeyman. I prefer the Emerson.

JT, do u have the Combat or Super Karambit? Couldn't get a gloved finger in the retention hole. The hole on the Super is .4 bigger. But, the carry is considerably bigger for my situation. I'm thinking the Combat might be fine though, as I can't get my hands on a Super. Thoughts? Thanks man.

@HELLZZARMY hmm, i thought they made the super 15. im not really a fan of regular tanto blades like on the cqc 7, but i like the cqc 15 because you still get the tanto tip but still have a decent amount belly. thanks for the tips JT

@CrotalusKid1 ...I don't think there is a "Super" CQC-15? And the Super CQC-8 is a pretty big knife. I suggest you handle a few Emersons and see which you prefer. But, if you don't have that oppurtunity I would suggest a CQC-15 out of the choices you gave.
A CQC-7 is also a great Emerson to start out with...one which started the "tactical knife" craze. A still highly sought after blade and one of my first.
Hey JT. What is your recommendation for a good place to buy Emersons? Do you have a favorite?

@m1ghtysauc3 ...I'm lucky to find a small selection at some gun shops here in Hawaii. A lot of online sites list them but, they're always out-of-stock/back ordered. I hate when a site doesn't indicated that and just leaves the site like it's available. I ordered a CQC-15...(2) months go by and NADA! I cancelled the order and got one from Emersons website in (3) days.
Check your local shops, search the internet but, Emerson's site is the BOMB! You might pay MSRP but, you'll get the knife!

looks like u are a big fan of serration
Lvl22nerd 10 months ago
@Lvl22nerd ...I carry (2) knives minimum along with gun, etc...(1) of the knives always has serrations. For ex: I'm carrying a Emerson CQC-15 BTS (serrated/primary) and a Strider DDG SMF (plain edge/secondary)...options.
Like my buddy macjmillsx says...a plain edge knife cuts easily when sharpen/not when dull...serrations cut even when dull. Even Ernest Emerson believes in having at least one blade with serrations.

how's the coating on the blade hanging on after lots of use? i'm thinking of getting an emerson but wonder about black or satin.

@thebodybuildingedge ...I can't attest to how they stand up against heavy use because I don't use my knife for utilitarian task..cutting cord, rope, camping, bushcraft, etc...
I can attest that the Black-T finish used by Emerson last the test of time.10-15 years they still look good. I have a few that are 20 years old that show the wear of handling, rubbing, etc...
