Self-directed, project based learning primary focus; driven by constructivist pedagogy
Part of the EdVisions Design Essentials video series, highlighting their use in schools.
Students discuss how self-directed, constructivist learning happens at their school and how it motivates them.
Thank you for your comments! I was interviewed by EdVisions for this video (and others) two academic years ago. Now a senior at Avalon, I am so grateful to have spent six years in this enriching, encouraging, and flexible learning environment. Avalon is a project-based, teacher-run public school serving grades 7-12. Students earn about graduations standards through classic seminars and independent proejcts. This allows us to discover our passions & makes learning relavent to our lives. -Holly

@vagabondrecon it isn't a class, students propose projects to a team of teachers and follow their passions... hence "self directed." the students are of mixed ages, including a graduate (the girl who speaks first). The teachers evaluate and guide the students to make sure that they hit the graduation standards. It is about building intrinsic motivation versus extrinsic motivation.
