OHM: Hindus in Jamaica Part 1

Just like in Suriname, Guyana and Trinidad, in the previous century there were more than 38,000 Hindus brought from India to Jamaica as contract workers. Of Hindus from Guyana, Trinidad and Suriname, we hear a few things on a regular basis.
For example, in the form of a musical hit, book, political position or simply as a tourist. But of Hindus from Jamaica we never hear anything. Why?

What makes the Hindu from Jamaica so invisible and low profile?
In a two-part documentary about Hindus from Jamaica, we go looking for answers to these and other questions. In this program, we follow the Jamaican Hindus beginning with their migration history and ending with their employment in Jamaica.

@kumarsa108 I don't get you...we are different from them. When i meet indians from india, it's totally different culture. They dont consider us indian anyway, they think of us as low caste peasants who deserted the motherland, even though most of us live way better than most indians in india today. I consider myself an Indo Trinidadian...not Indian.

There are many books - not only sites that demonstrate how the British deceived Indians into leaving after slavery being abolished(you are probably too dumb to read a book and obtain all information by watching videos online) Even Guyanese government site Guyana.org has articles on the subject

Stop saying you are Guyanese- you are obviously not born in my country of Guyana.

@turnfootsherlock if you go to some parts of china,America, England, Korea or japan you will meet racist people, racism is everywhere,but i assure you not all Indians are racist. for you to even type that is stereotyping and ignorant. Are you of pure African blood i don't think so, so the other races your mix with have racist people too. how do you fight racism i don't know but i keep going on with my life there are other things to worry about.

@turnfootsherlock there are also whites who hate blacks and Asians who hate blacks even blacks who hate blacks there are also dark skin east Indians who endures prejudice. its nothing new not everyone is the same we just need to love and accept our selves never let it get you down.

I am glad to learn that there are Hindus in Jamaica.I am from Mauritius,a small islaand in the Indian ocean,in the east of Madagascar.Majority of people in our island are Hindus .Our ancestors came from India as indentured labourers.We share the same hindu festivals and culture.we speak Bhojpuri, hindi, telegu,and tamil.we also know english and french.

it sounds racist mann..But Indian is racist in many ways.There are many people who are mean to people of other cultures within India.But not all are the same..Even in India, when people from North go South or vice versa, there is a lot of mistreatment.. I know of situations where dark skinned indians are often mistreated by the fairer skinned ones. I think its because Indian communities are very closely knit and some of us dont like change.Hope ur next visit to India is pleasant.
