Do not mistake leaning liberal for leaning democratic. Democrat and liberal are far from synonymous. Fact is as it currently stands, on the political spectrum, the republicans and democrats are just a hair's width apart, on the right side of the spectrum.

It's not sad at all, ever since the beginning, they have always leaned for Clinton and the Democrats and for things like Global warming, back in 1996, this was a light hearted joke and no one took politics that seriously. And you gotta give them credit, in over 8 whole years, they never once attacked George W Bush, but leaning democratic has always been the Simpson's trait and I seriously doubt this statement was mean't to be taken seriously, especially in such a peaceful year as 1996.
