An official release of Waylon's appearance became available just this month, and you can find it here....http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=waylon+us+festival&x=0&y=0

A very special, once in a lifetime concert I attended as a lad of 16 years: The infamous concert for which Willie says in his biography, they were paid "way too much"! Organized by Steve "Woz" Wozniak, this was a 4-day outdoor concert (3 rock/pop days and 1 country day) held outside San Bernardino, California in June, 1983. The event garnered the largest attendance for any outdoor concert up to that time.

Willie was supposed to come on stage right after Waylon, but for whatever reason, Riders in the Sky took the stage and were boo-ed quickly away! Willie finally arrived and launched in Whiskey River at about 1AM!!!! I had seen Willie several times prior to this and a few times since. I CAN TELL YOU, OF ALL HIS PERFORMANCES I"VE SEEN RECORDED OR LIVE, THIS WAS A LIFETIME PERFORMANCE!!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH ENERGY FROM WILL....
TOO BAD HIS SET WAS EDITED OUT OF THIS SPECIAL BY HBO/SHOWTIME.

Anyway, hope you dig it!

Much more to come!

  • is that moon on steel or some else??

  • @waylonfan01 -- That is Moony.

  • i was raised won waylon and willie merle and hank im 31 yrs old now and still listen to all of the classic country and classic rock.they dont make much country music anymore what you get now is some city boy that thinks he can sing gets sombody to write his songs and he sings them.country music comes from hard living not someone that has had everything gave to them there whole life

  • That's an interesting point; I'm glad you made it!

  • I, like you monster4josh, was at this concert. I'm a little older and have to confess I did spend some time in the beer garden. When Waylon came on I was right up front. I really got into Waylon when I got back in 66' from serving the USMC in Viet Nam. I've seen him in concert 6 times and each time was better than the last. On my dresser is a picture taken of Waylon and I shaking hands after one of his shows. He is one of my hero's. There are those today that wouldn't be fit to tune his guitar.

  • Thanks for commenting! Waylon was a great musician (his guitar playing was way under-rated) and a unique singer, and passed away way too young. My first listen to Waylon must have been on the "Wanted! The Outlaws" album--still one of my favorites! I been to 4 or 5 Waylon shows, mostly at arenas, but I would have loved to have seen him play at some small club down in Arizona back in the day!
