Factory Five GTM First Startup

The first startup of a Factory Five GTM Supercar with an LS2. Exhaust is stock manifolds with 2.5" mandrel bent pipes and Flowmaster 40 Series Mufflers.

is there enough room for turbos plus intercooler? im very interested in gettting either the gtm or an ultima gtr

@santi505 there are people that have twin turboed these things. 1000+hp. There is plenty of room around the engine. An Air/Water intercooler would probably work out best for ease of installing and getting maximum efficiency out of the motor. Don't know if people actually make kits, but I'm sure if you look on the forum, you can get some ideas and some help.

I love the car, but I have a serious concern about it. If you're T-Boned in an accident, you're dead.

@Curveball The chassis design is actually pretty good. The door frames are 1" square tubing (not on the car yet) and the tubular frame wraps around you nicely. It would actually be pretty hard for a car to hit you in a way that you are not protected. These are designed by the same guys that rolled one of their Cobra kits, patched the fiberglass and raced it the next day. I'd trust it.

I see in the description that there is an ls2 in there but I was under the impression the kit called for an ls1. Did you guys just modify it slightly for the ls2 or was there a typo on the site and the ls2 fits in there perfectly?

The LS2 fits just like the LS1. You can fit an LS7 in too. Any LS based will work. The water pump must be from an LS1 though to fit properly. Can't remember what else must be LS1 specific, but it's just accessory related.

@Curveball That's fine - it's your opinion - but as you'll know, the GTM isn't 'just another kit car'. I showed pictures of the car in body-off phase to an engineer, and he was really impressed with the strength and rigidity of the overall design. I've known drag racers survive horrendous crashes with similar space-frame designs. Whether you walk away from being T-boned will always depend on what exactly T-bones you; there's only so much protection afforded by any low-profile car.

I don't see the driver walking from a 35+mph T-Bone collision. I'm not trying to insult your car, I really like them. They are impressive, but I just don't see them or any other tube frame car as safe.

@Curveball The tubular space-frame is exceptional on this car. Driver will probably walk away, car will be toast.

@santi505 If you drive one with a standard LS1 @ 350 Hp, you will soon realize that anything much more than a stock LS7 @ 505 Hp is completely unnecessary and largely unusable. Don't think to apply the same rules to the GTM as most other cars.... it's extremely light compared even to a Corvette. Aim for 500 Hp, which - with a mild LS3 - should produce 0-60 in 3 seconds flat and a theoretical 208 Mph top speed. How much do you want to spend to upgrade beyond that for a late 2 sec 0-60 & 215 Mph?

Its a living shame that the engineers that designed this fabulous kit car didnt have enough consideration to design this car so that a man of 6"10 (namely ME) would be able to fit into it.

@redghost105 a ls7 gtm with a six speed was faster than the zr1's 0-60 is 3.3 seconds. 1/4 mile is 11.1 seconds and the ls7 gtm goes 0-60 in 3 second flat and 1/4 mile in 11 second flat. the biggest issue of putting an ls9 in the gtm is the throttle body placing, it would surely be hard to run piping for an intake to it. but you could buy a TVS 2300, same type of supercharger used on the ls9's but with a rear inlet or may be Kennebell 2.8L and make more horsepower
