We are honoured to present excerpts of Suparinpei kata by Higa Seiko [比嘉 世幸 - 1898-1966].
Higa Seiko learned the fighting arts directly under the tutelage of Higaonna Kanryo [東恩納 寛量, 1853-1915]. According to Higa Saburo, who became one of his students in 1952, Higa Seiko also studied Toudi-jutsu directly under Itosu Ankoh [糸洲 安恒, 1831-1915], to whom the later was apparently related. Although we are not sure how long Higa Seiko studied under Itosu Ankoh, we are certain that he studied under Higaonna Kanryo for four years, between the ages of thirteen and seventeen, until the master passed away in 1915. Higa continued on his training with Miyagi Chojun [宮城 長順, 1888-1953], arguably Higaonna best student.
This rare colour recording is, to the best of our knowledge, the only footage of Higa Seiko in existence.

Wow! Great to see Seiko Higa Sensei performing. I did not know footage existed of him. It is amazing how he was a student of both Higashionna and Miyagi. Thank you for posting!

Always great to be able to see a little piece of history... I don't think there are many of the Higa lineage who would have seen this before... Fantastic...
