"The Mechanix" is a song written by Dave Mustaine. It was used on No Life 'Til Leather, Metallica's demo. The lyrics refer to a horny automotive mechanic who wants to have his way with a female customer. When Mustaine was kicked out, Metallica changed the lyrics to write "The Four Horsemen" but still gave Mustaine credit for the song. The new lyrics refer to the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Mustaine released the song with its original lyrics a year later on Megadeth's first album. However, it was not as long as "The Four Horsemen", which had an added bridge into the song making it over seven minutes long, while "The Mechanix" remained around four and half minutes long. "Mechanix" is played at twice the speed of Metallica's version of the song.

In the original version of the song, Mustaine screams "Fuck yeah!" at 3:07; however, on the greatest hits album, this was cut out.

The different versions of the song are as follows: * The Mechanix - Metallica - Power Metal - 1982 * The Mechanix - Metallica - No Life 'Til Leather - 1982 * The Four Horsemen - Metallica - Kill 'Em All - 1983 * Mechanix (demo) - Megadeth - Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good! (Remastered) - 1984 (released 2002) * Mechanix - Megadeth - Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good! - 1985

megadeth versus metallica

"The Four Horsemen" is the second track on the album. The original song, called "The Mechanix", had different lyrics, and was written during the time when Mustaine was Metallica's guitarist. After Mustaine was ejected from the band, he included it on Megadeth's first album, Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!, with the title slightly shortened to just "Mechanix", with the original lyrics, and a much faster tempo played at double speed. After he left, Hetfield rewrote the lyrics and Hammett added a new, melodic guitar solo in the middle of the song. This section is not played when Metallica performs this song live.

"The Four Horsemen" is a definite fan-favorite song of Metallica, and is commonly played live by the band. The title also served as a source for one of the band's nicknames.

The lyrics, as the title suggests, are about the end of the world and the apocalypse. Referring to the biblical text about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. However, many believe the song is about Metallica themselves as the "horsemen."

The lyrics refer to the horsemen as Time, Famine, Pestilence and Death. However, in the Apocalypse, Time is not represented by a horseman; War is. Metallica replaced War with Time because of their anti-war stance.

David Scott Mustaine (born David Scott Mustaine, September 13, 1961 in La Mesa, California, United States) is the lead/rhythm guitarist, songwriter, and singer for the speed/thrash metal band, Megadeth. He grew up in various Southern California suburbs. As the central figure of Megadeth and a former Metallica lead guitarist and co-songwriter, he is one of a handful of people considered to have pioneered thrash metal and speed metal.

James Alan Hetfield (born 3 August 1963, Downey, California[1]) is the main songwriter, lead vocalist, guitarist and a founding member of the American thrash/heavy metal band Metallica.

  • To all fellow metalheads.

Instead of a Metal rebellion i propose a new plan.

    1. Don't bash other metal artists, we need to unite. We cant fight against pop music if we arent even together.

    2. Watch more and other metal videos to get it to the top of the youtube vid list

    3. Instead of bashing pop, promote metal with logical reasons, not just "METAL RULES!"

If you like this idea, thumbs it up JUST so people can see it, and also spread it around if you like this idea"

    STOP VS

  • @PotatoSeargent Well, they are a thrash metal band...

  • personally i like metallica's version better because the lyrics are better, and the song is played at a better tempo. the middle part where kirk added on to it sounds soo good and kirk actually changed every solo of daves in this album, he only used the first 4 bars of the old solos and then from there he changed it

  • mustaine wrote the song it's meant to be fast. metallica just play it slower because there not skilled enough to play as good as mustaine! i like both version's though so all you metallica fanboy's can fuck off!

  • four horsemen is better IN EVERY WAY take it from a guitarist. changing into "another song" means complex song structure and thats what influenced most of today's metal

  • the horseman is shit! half way threw it turns into another song wtf? and besides even if u call fourhorseman better ur still givin ur credit to dave xD all metallica did was ruin it , o btw @AwashRocker999. metallica is ment to b thrash and there version sux, jst shws they have to rip off dave to make sumfin good, and even then they ruin it xD face it metallica will alwais suk!

  • Metallicas version is better more smooth and metal like. Megadeths version is unclean and thrash like IMO not good

  • horsemen 100% better than mechanix

  • @93thrasher mechanix is better than four horsemen, killing is my business is better than kill em all. But If were gonna talk about 1983, show no mercy fucks both albums in the ass
