Fiery Trials Make Golden Christians - William Dyer

2 Corinthians 4:17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

Psalm 119:71 It was good for me to be afflicted
so that I might learn your decrees.

Hebrews 12:10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.

Psalm 119:75 I know, LORD, that your laws are righteous,
and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

William Dyer (1632-1696) was a godly pastor in London, who was expelled from his church in the 'Great Ejection' of 1662. He is described as a man of great piety, and a serious fervent preacher.

  • The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts. Pro. 17:3

A fining pot is not meant to destroy silver, nor is the furnace for bring gold to ruin. but both are for the purifying of them. The LORD who tries the heart does so not to ruin or destroy that soul, but to prove the faith in it to be more precious than gold that perisheth.
