This is a time-lapse of the web cam located in Barrow, AK overlooking landfast ice in the Arctic Ocean. One photo per day, spanning the entire cycle of sea ice drift and growth (December) (note the brightening of sea ice as the thickness increases around December 15), and decay (early June), reduction of extent and break-up (late June). Also visible is the melt of snow cover in town (May). Time-lapse spans September 2006 until July 2007. The camera is located atop the ASRC building downtown, looking approximately NNW. See http://www.gi.alaska.edu/snowice/sea-lake-ice/barrow_webcam.html for details.
It surprises me that a 100% complete ice cover does not establish until December. The September-October verge is usually the beginning of 100% winter in Barrow, isn't it? So it takes two months for an ALWAYS cold sea, not that far from the always-frozen ocean and occasionally getting bricks of its ice even in mid-summer, to get fully frozen?

Great video! I went to Svalbard (Spitsbergen)one year in late May.There was still snow on the ground yet what was great was seeing broad daylight at 2o'clock in the morning.

After my return from the north pole in 1960 I spent one night in pt Barrow and since it was dark just about 24 hours a day I didn't get to see that much..I did notice that they installed a few street lights since then.
