Regal RC-51 Amazing Grace Open D

My son plays Amazing Grace in Open D on his new Regal RC-51 Resonator Guitar.

This guitar was bought on ebay (unfortunately). it had a huge hump in the neck and crushed cones. For the price (compared to National) its good... as long its in good working order. I paid 450$ for it, put 140$ in cones and had the frets leveled out.

Come to find out, in the video here, the cones were crushed which caused it to sound horrible. It was quiet and buzzed real bad. We replaced the cones with Quarterman cones, which made a huge difference. The sound quality and volume was much better afterwards.

I am looking for a tricone resonator and found that the Nationals although looking and sounding great were just too expensive, could you recommend this one or another?

Great job, your son sounds terrific! Try to convince him to go with fingerstyle and he will be able to do a lot more with it. You'd be surprised how quickly he can pick up at least a basic, workable style that way.
