Brian 'Turbo' Tunnard (aka SuperBrian) of the UK Cloud Hoppers Paramotor Club here ...

... Here's me, taking off using a 'deathtrap' Dudek Nucleon 34 (lol), and a flimsy Airfer Tornado PPG (lol)

This was an 'impromtu' video shot on Quintons iphone (from a distance) ... showing probably one of my best ever take-offs.

Nill wind / Hot & Humid Day / Spectators watching ... no pressure at all ;-)

I used what 'someone' (who shall remain nameless) has called "The River of Wind" technique ... it's just a variation on the powered foreward launch, where you 'blow a jet of air from your prop for 10 to 15 seconds (at 75% power ish), aimed at 3 feet or so above the centre of your wing".

The idea is to create your own 'artificial wind' when none is pressent. I'll let you be your the judge as to whether it worked or not ... HINT ... how far did I have to run??

  • Picking up my Nucleon this weekend, can't wait! I've been launching a power atlas the last year as my first wing, and seeing that nucleon launch makes me very excited to launch that over the Atlas.
