At Exceptional Beginnings, our mission is to promote maternal and fetal well being. We strive to help women and their partners achieve the healthiest and happiest birth possible. We want to help empower women in their decision making about birth and all the options that are available. We stand by our commitment to provide an unbiased approach to expecting families no matter what their plan for birth might be (i.e. VBAC, Natural Birth, Medicated Birth or Cesarean Section...etc.). Our vision is to be an advocate (not a voice) for families during this exciting and new time in their lives and to help every new beginning become an Exceptional Beginning!

  • while i respect doula's and the work that they do, i cant' say i totally agree with all of these women's testimonies. as one woman stated, that all the decison making was left up to her while having a home birth. well..okay that's nice, but are you a doctor? do you know what's best health wise for you and your baby at that moment. i mean, child birth is dangerous. anything can go wrong. also, there is nothing wrong with using drugs, it's not only painful for you but for the baby too.

  • All the women in the video had hospital births. Each one made their own educated decision on whether or not to receive drugs. If there had been a medical emergency, then the doctors and nurses would have advised on the course of action needed. A doula's role in birth is to give unbiased emotional and physical support to the client, whether they choose drugs or not. The doula answers the client's questions about drugs and procedures, but CANNOT make any medical decision for them.

  • The song is by Sigur Ros. Thanks for your comment!

  • @abigailien This is a terribly outdated and patriarchal view to take. If you look at the data, you'll discover that home births are JUST as safe as hospital births, and in some cases, safer. The infant and maternal mortality rate does not increase when birth occurs at home. Birth is NOT an emergency, it's a normal physiological process and will go beautifully the vast majority of the time with no intervention or assistance at all.

  • @abigailien Birth is not painful on the baby, it is natural. Is it work for both mom and baby? Yes, but not painful in a negative aspect to child. What can be painful and harmful actually is drugs use during labor, as they can and do have side effects to the baby as well as can change the natural course of labor and contractions, etc. If a mom still decides meds are best for her, than more power to her, it is her choice in the end. But at least she will make these choices knowing pros and cons.

  • @abigailien PS you outlook that birth is "dangerous" is EXACTLY why the cesarian cection rate has SKYROCKETED to astronomical proportions

  • @abigailien- when women receive drugs in labor, it interferes with the hormonal balance that helps the baby adjust to the process. all interventions have their place, but their routine use puts moms and babies at risk. birth is not an illness, it is a normal physiological process.

  • nice video. it really help enlighten thier mind thanks for ur video more power

  • Check the work of Marshall and Phyllis Klaus.
