I play through both Game A and B on this classic Game & Watch video game obviously based on the Donkey Kong Arcade game (yes, this little guy is supposed to be Mario). It's a little bit different due to the restrictions of the Game & Watch system, but they did a fine adaptation. Mario must reach the top of the structure, activate a lever which will put a crane in his reach. Then he must jump for the crane and demolish little by little the structure on which Donkey Kong is standing in order to rescue Pauline (a little bit like the last level of the Arcade). Game B is more difficult and there's a beam near the middle of the screen from time to time, preventing you from accessing the top at intervals. For those of you who don't know Game & Watch systems, these are the predecessors to the Game Boy and DS in some way (some games are dual screen like this one). Featuring very simple and addictive gameplay, they're not complex video games. There is a basic goal that you will always need to repeat until you die hoping to achieve the highest score. The games work on an LCD display, but unlike the Game Boy's LCD display, the limited possible patterns are already programmed, that's why there are no smooth movements and the objects always seem to go to a series of predefined locations. A lot of those games star the generic character now known as Mr. Game & Watch, featured in the Super Smash Bros. series. These portable systems did a fine job at the time and I'm sure some people will be nostalgic. If you weren't around when they came out, just watch this piece of video game history at its simplest form. Be careful about the sound effects if you're using headphones or loud speakers! Don't forget, if you have requests like for another video game walkthrough or something, just ask here or on my channel or even by sending me a message and if I can make it, there are good chances that I will.

Note: I had to make this video in HD, it would not come out appropriately otherwise, but the resulting video on YouTube is still watchable in normal quality or HD if you like, both will look OK enough.

  • How did you make this video?

  • @WadelDee I don't even properly remember at this point. Either I found this game as a download somewhere and used an external recording software to record it or I might have recorded directly from a browser playing it online. But as far as editing goes, there was nothing much to it, I do remember that the console with the screens were already there while playing, I did not add them.

  • so...nintendo hasn't actually come up with an original idea since the debut of widespread videogaming?

two screens: Game & Watch -> DS

Motion control: Power Glove -> Wii

    3D: Virtual Boy -> 3DS

..Wiiu, please save us from the ever-growing mediocrity. i miss Goldeneye.

  • @TheTwitchkid To tell you the truth, I don't even have high hopes for the Wii U so far. I'll get it if there are good games, but I'm afraid it'll be gimmicky and with poor third party support. So let's just hope I'm completely wrong on my prediction.

  • This is my favourite version of donkey kong.

The basic thing that fucking annoys me is when kids think that

    1.Game and watch is Crap

2.Ds is the first multi screen game system

3.They say "Ive got that on DS, except your playing the Crap version"

  • @97ej 3 options here, the game and watch background is a still image, I'm a very good magician or I'm a ghost. Personally, I'd pick ghost as an answer.

  • @TheTwitchkid

when it comes to designs there are only 3 to chose from the plane one lke the gameboy advanced the slide one like the psp go and the flip one (THIS ONE) which is the best one if you ask me so it has nothing to do with nintendo running out its just that there arnt many to chose from so they go with the best one and its not just nintendo that reuses there design look at the new psp it looks just like the older one and all those icrap prducts that apple keeps pulling out of there

  • @MrQi19 I never said it was a bad design, or the same product! but the fact that it looks almost identical to the modern Ds kind of signifies that they're just running out of ideas.

Sadly, nintendo might not have enough ideas to be around much longer...

  • @TheTwitchkid

its a good design am glad they used it again it keeps the screen safe and its not the same product resold we both know that

  • @MrQi19 I know nintendo made this, but all I'm saying is that they took the same basic design, re-vamped it a bit, and resold it to us as a completely new product.

They're just running out of imagination, as the rest of the world is :p
