This is the first time that Taufik Hidayat is playing doubles in a professional game. Not surprisingly, he is very good at it.

**Sorry for the lousy camera work, I left the tripod in the car and I was focused on watching the players

  • The issue I have with the scoring system is the following: under certain circumstances, one side could have a greater likelihood of winning the next point after winning the previous one, which would lead to a greater separation in the scores and thereby reducing the likelihood of a tight-scoring game.

  • @thejym For example, the NBL scoring system has one side serve four points in a row. If my opponent has to serve four points to me in a row, it is highly likely for me to win three or four points (since a serve in badminton was never intended to be used to generate a point like in tennis). If you watch sports like basketball, after one team makes a basket, the other team then gets a chance to get on the offense. It is similar in badminton, which makes for a more pleasant game to watch.

  • Strange scoring system. I am deadly confused with the scoring and positioning. Odd numbers should play in left, how come Tony served in right. All is messed up. Can anyone help to clarify? Or it's just for fun and does not really matter?

  • @BocahMadiun This was scored using the "NBL system", which is this new league started by a few people here in the US but hasn't really caught on fully. The players here have agreed to play a match under this system, but of course you will continue to see 21-point games in international play for the next few years to come.

  • @thejym The way the scoring works is first to 17 points, each side serves 4 points in a row (regardless of who wins or loses). If it's 16-16, next point wins. I think there was a mistake made in the scoring of this game by the ref, but don't sweat it.

  • That idiot on the side cant keep score correctly. Check him out.

  • @thejym Personally, I think this scoring system is total crap. What's the purpose of it? It doesn't make it any more or less fair for the players then the point-per-play rally scoring to 21. They're just creating more confusion with this scoring system.
