The Consulate General of Greece in Toronto in cooperation with the Hellenic Heritage Foundation and the Sick Kids Foundation will organize a major event in support of Sick Kids Hospital. The event will take place one week prior to the Easter of Hellenes, on Thursday April 14th 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Paramount Conference and Event Venue, (222 Rowntree Dairy Road ON L4L 9T2).

This unique initiative, with a wide participation of the Greek Diaspora in Ontario, will occur following consultations with the Sick Kids Foundation. The Foundation pledged their full and unequivocal commitment to this venture with a letter of support. There are several goals that this event hopes to accomplish.

As most know, Sick Kids Hospital aims by 2013 to be the biggest hospital in the world for children who suffer from cancer. This marks the first time that an initiative is taken by an ethnic community from the province of Ontario whose goal is to collect as many funds as possible for this most noble cause. There is no doubt that giving hope and getting a smile from a child is the most beautiful thing in the world.

Our Diaspora must and will take the initiative in this effort. We do it for our children, but also for our children's children. In just two years from today we will all witness Sick Kids Hospital as a leader and innovator with their efforts touching the entire world. We can then proclaim proudly that "HELLENISM WAS THERE!" and we could serve as an inspiring example to other ethnic communities and receive the appreciation once more of the Canadian society. High ranking representatives from Canada will be present on the night of this event, which consequently will provide a tremendous opportunity to showcase our Hellenic values and ideals, through mass media.

Through an expression of unconditional love and support towards those kids unfairly considered to be children of a lesser God, few days only prior to the Crucifixion and Resurrection celebrated during Easter, we send the most important message of human dignity all over Canada and to the rest of the world. This message will above all speak to the hearts of our youth. It is our sacred duty to make this youth proud of our choices and acts preserving thus its Hellenic origins, values and traditions all of which make us feel proud of today. Beyond and above all this however it is well understood that there will be a massive promotion of our beloved Nation, Greece, during the event with all the positive consequences that such a public exposure entails.

The Greek Diaspora reaches out to the suffering little angels of our Earth and offers them a warm embrace of love, care and solidarity. We do it from our hearts and beyond our means. We do it for our beloved Greece, in the name of all the everlasting values bestowed upon us by our parents. TOGETHER WE WILL, FOR OUR GREECE, FOR OUR CHILDREN AND FOR THE CHILDREN OF OUR CHILDREN.
