to all you people trying to make hay for your conservative causes out of the demise of the anthracite industry, look up Johnny Mitchell, Lattimer Massacre or 1902 Anthracite Coal Strike on Wikipedia. These people are miners because its in their blood. It is the big energy companies using the government to put them under, not the UMWA or the democratic party. There is a big difference between these people and assholes like Blankenship and Massey. These are decent working people.

@madisonhack you only vote democrat if you don't want to work. if you actually work for a living and manage to scratch a few cents off a rock the democrats will take it from you and give it to someone thats supposedly 'disabled'.

@dsc123057 fuck unions

@travishumphrey: What the hell are you trying to spit out? Incoherent babbling. I worked Union (UMWA)for a decade, and our Union Mine ran for over 40 years, setting production records and brings hundreds of MILLIONS of tons out of the ground. Our UNION miners worked their butts off to get the coal. Our UNION miners saved the mine from fire disaster three times. Go to hell, but learn to read and write before you do.

Vote Republican and work for minimum wage your whole life. If you want to live like a Republican, vote Democrat.

@TravisHumphreyslife I am a UMWA miner up in Canada... I can see why you feel the way you do about unions... where I work, most of the people are there to get coal and as much as we can every shift... some hide behind the collective agreement and make us all look bad... but also, with the company I work for the union mines consistently out produce the non union mines.

@TravisHumphreyslife I'm a uinion man ans was once a nonunion man. I worked at one of the biggest nonunion mines in pa, and there were just as man lazy men there as there is at the union mine I work at.
-
Most coments are that Union men are lasz, well bud I'm union and I'll work most any man under the table seven days a week. I worked both nonunion for years and now union and there are just as many lazy nonunion men as there are lazy union men.

does anyone know if this documentary is avaliable on DVD at all?
Question?; as a coal miner, why would I want to be union and let my company go under because I am lazy and cry 24/7?. Production is money. I still today thank the union 40 years ago, but now there is a thing called "goverment regulations". yet As you call me a "Scab", my company requires me to do things by regulations legal and not the whining. Reminder: Coal mining is tough and always will be. and if you want to keep a job in this industry, Work your butt off sissy. The UMWA now is not helping
