Agreed. In the end, MMA, Karate, BJJ etc, may be fighting styles, but we are not fighting to the death on an ancient battlefield and therefore we are all merely participating in a sport. We love these sports and want to spend as much of our lives as we can being involved in them. Remaining healthy is vital for longterm participation.

Mori-sensei is my instructor. He is awesome, and one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I love seeing this.

Yahara is somewhat similar to Lyoto Machida. He is clearly a counter fighter, but he is viciously aggressive also.

Kata is never the answer to anything in terms of learning how to fight. It has it's uses for teaching balance, stances, fluid pivoting, ertc. but you're not going to directly learn anything about how to apply techniques, grappling or otherwise, in a fight. There's a long tradition of mixing Karate & Judo (Funakoshi's first mainland students were Judoka he taught atemi to at the Kodokan) which we should continue and re-popularize in the US.
