@jrkepler The three cylinders drive a shaft which drives the three trucks on the locomotive, of course... each cylinder appears to have its own set of Stevenson valve gear linkages, which I would assume are all connected to the same control in the cab.
Old West Side Lumber Company #7 is one of my favorite locomotives, and she also happens to be the crews favorite for its easy steaming, lubricating, and firing.
im curious, is this engine design better than the "ordinary" locomotives we see?

Does a Shay drive any different than a conventional steam locomotive? I don't see any linkage or anything to adjust the cutoff.
