Bowery Poetry Club, May 9, 2009: Several writers joined Words Like Kudzu Press to read from Richard Leck's poetry and his stories as we remembered Richard's humor and his writing. This video and the next, Parts 8 & 9, features New York poet Jackie Sheeler, reading from Richard's autobiography, a section about World War II in Jersey City during Richard's childhood, and then Richard's Army training in Fort Dix, NJ.
Words Like Kudzu poet, Richard Leck, died on December 19, 2008, at age 75. At the time of his death he was co-authoring his autobiography, "Jumped, Fell, or Was Pushed," with Karen Lillis. The autobiography is still in progress; Lillis has plans to complete it.
At this reading we said goodbye to Richard Leck, the person, and hello to Richard Leck, the writer--he died at the beginning of his publishing career.
