My Dad's project two-door Triumph Toledo, after 2 years of being laid up during construction, coughs and bangs into life for the FIRST ever time.

The car is fitted with the 3 litre (183ci) Triumph Stag OHC V8, replete with electronic ignition, electronic fuel pump and a Holley four barrel. Power is transmitted to the road by a 4 speed overdrive transmission and a Sprint rear axle.

The car also benifits from other mods, like a full set of Superflex suspension bushes, big vented discs with performance calipers, Gaz adjustable platform and damping shocks, stiffer springs and more....

It'll be a real mean machine when it's done - watch this space!

  • doesnt cost much time to clean carb and fix inition timing .....

  • Indeed! Is coming together now - just needed the cobwebs blowing out as the engine had been sat for 4 years and the carb isn't quite correctly jetted for it.

Runs and drives now though - and fires up without too much grief! Like you say, a little more time and it'll be spot on...

  • If Triumph hadn't been boxed in by Rover & Jaguar in the BLMC-whatever mess, they could have sold V8 Dollys, Tols, 2500 saloons & estates.

I still think that the Stag V8 was a bad idea, cost & engineering wise. Would have been better/cheaper to design new OHC heads for the 3.5l Buick V8. Still, what do I know?

  • More than they did, at the time, methinks! Still, benefit of hindsight and all that...

All those V8 models would have been awesome.....

  • starts up just like when they were brand new! ;0)

  • Haha :D

It's settled down a bit now - reset the float chambers and ran some cleaner through it. Two pumps and it bursts into life on the first flick of the key.

It's still not quite happy on the transition from idle to running but if you're gentle it's fine.

Runs and revs without issue, otherwise, now! Soon be taking it's first steps!

  • Seriously. The timing is 180 out

  • Take THAT, Toyota Prius!! :P

  • I think we all noticed that the timing is miles out, twist that dizzy to get it to run proper....

  • 0:39 to 2:03 is very familiar to Triumph owners!!

  • Explodes into life? More like just explodes lol!

  • I wish my wife would get that excited. I enjoyed the vid btw. Well done.
