Abdrazakov sings this weekend the Verdi Requiem in Chicago with CSO. I have been hearing singers 38 years, and I have never heard a more beautiful bass. Gorgeous voice, perfect technique, his musicianship is superior to any bass I have heard in my life. I sing in the chorus, and could not contain myself; I found him, I took his hand and spoke into his ear how beautiful, how sweet is his singing. His "Lacrymosa" and "Hostias" - I wept twice onstage.

His Requiem was still more beautiful on the 3rd night, if that were possible. I've heard all the basses documented in this music since 1927, Ildar is finer than any - superior musicality, absolute legato. To sing as he does would require an extraorinary degree of personal security. No striving, only being the music. A mystery to me, the great and gentle beauty he brings to Verdi. Incandescent. Bellississimo. He releases the highest, noblest vibration out into the universe. Bright star!
