I grew up going to my cousins' camp at Middle Island Point every summer and I love Marquette and environs with all my heart. Circumstances dictate that we no longer have access to the camp but we will always visit this wonderful place. I love my hometown (Madison, WI) but if I were to relocate Marquette would be top o' the list. Thank you dear cousin Dorothy Maywood Bird for giving me this!
I grew up in Marquette in the 40s and 50s and spent tons of hours on the Island. At that time, the pool was operating and we would take the bus from the corner of Washington and 3rd street all the way out to the Island for a dime, spend all day swimming and roaming around the Island playing pirates, and exploring. I still make a point of getting to Marquette almost every summer and drive around the Island a few times during my stay. All of the scenes are "old friends" of mine!
Having attended Northern Michigan University, this video is especially evocative and brings back memories of the Dead River basin, ROTC rock, and catching steelhead off the breakwall.
I hope to return for a visit in the not to distant future.
My wife and I really appreciate this video. We spent nearly 3 1/2 years in Marquette while finishing our college education. We were reminded of many fond memories of our walks around Presque Isle Park. Thank you for putting that smile on our face.
Love this video!! I remember riding around Presque Isle on my bike when I went to school at NMU in the seventies.
