Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad at the Granville Road Crossing south of Brockway, PA February 7, 2011

This northbound BPRR freight train was caught at the Granville Road crossing a half mile south of Brockway, PA. Up the valley to the east and south of the current crossing was a large coal mine owned by the Erie Railroad's Northwest Mining & Exchange Company. The mine ran for about ten years from 1917 to 1927. A 3-track branch was built from the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Railway (now the BPRR) to the mines, the branch starting about where the locomotives start in the video. Several items remain from the mine, including the concrete supports for the steel coal tipple, the mine shale dump piles, several foundations, and the Granville school, a brick structure which is now a private home along Granville Road.
