One thing I would say that the coaches didn't mention that I always check pre-race is the steering lines for the rudder. I find since the vast majority of our fleet are bow-loaded boats the wires can easily get trapped in the rigger bolts and there is nothing worse than steering that doesn't work before a race for a coxwain! Also a quick test of the coxbox wireing is also a good idea.
