These are some interesting world percussion sounds in the Emu Planet Earth synth module. I simply midi'd the V-Drums to the Planet Earth and jammed away, editing out the less interesting or "more of the same" type sounds.

  • Thanks for a great product demo. I've bought the EmulatorX version of Planet Earth. As one musician to another I can see you have the talent. Your implementation is modern and the end result (which is the only thing that ever matters) is solid. Keep it up.

  • Very interesting. I own the Planet Earth and the HD-1 kit, but it never crossed my mind to put them together! Very inspiring.

  • @InsertName125 ---I did use a hybrid years ago, but the logistics of getting a balanced sound sound is expensive and time-consuming---besides, I live in an apartment and could never use acoustic drums. In a world where I won Lotto, I would definately use a hybrid kit---particularly real cymbals. I think it's cool when a guitarist triggers keyboard (or other) sounds. It's interestring to hear how a keyboard might sound with guitarist sensibilities--or a sax sound with keyboard techinique, etc.

  • @Synthdrumnoise I agree. It's just a psychological hangup I have. It's like it causes some kind of cognitive dissonance for me or something. I'm also bothered by seeing people trigger keyboard samples with a guitar, when they could expend less effort by simply playing those same notes on a keyboard. This isn't quite the same as that, because you're a percussionist, being a percussionist.

Do you ever play with a hybrit kit that incorporates acoustic percussion at the same time?

  • @InsertName125 ---thanks for an interesting comment. The thing about electronic percussion is that they open up doors that were not open for me before. They expand my horizons and allow me to experiment in new and exciting ways. I think of the pads as triggers---not necessarily as drums or cymbals. I can access percussion instruments from all over the world that I would never be able to possess in real-life and play them in my own ways. I find this quite compelling actually!

  • Great job. I just find it disturbing to see you hit things that look like cymbals but sound like membranophones. It just rubs a psychological nerve wrong for me.
