Weekend newsreader Jennifer Keyte introduces the lead story on Saturday 7 March: a report from Margaret Dekker from the memorial service held for former GTV9 newsreader Brian Naylor and his wife Moiree, who died in the Black Saturday fires on Saturday 7 February.

You only need look at some of the familar faces from across all networks and industries to recognise the level of respect held for Naylor by colleagues, competitors and everyday viewers.

  • I hope even Jana Wendt, Brian's Channel 9 colleague at A Current Affair and 60 Minutes was there.

    Note: Jana was the first co-anchor of the revamped Ten Eyewitness News with David Johnston in 1980.

  • 0:36 That's David Johnston, former 7 newsreader and later anchor of Ten News Melbourne from 1980-1996. I hope Jo Pearson and Rob Gell were around that day with Mal Walden, for these four were the reason Brian Naylor's National Nine News lost to Ten Eyewitness News from 1982 to 1989.
