  • Steve Perry and Geoff Tate are of ture tenors. Others are either of lower range or simply screaming most of the time; /watch?v=vZOJMcCABKg

  • @trapezemit Steve Perry surely is a tenor but Geoff Tate is a high baritone with extremely incredible high note skills.

And no, as skilled as they are, there are MANY other fantastic vocalists too.

  • Jared Leto is not a low tenor, lol xD to hit a D5 in a full chest voice like that you have to be at LEAST a high/first tenor

  • @gabrielcenteio He is DEFINITELY a low tenor. Going up to D5 in full voice doesn't tell one's voice type (there are tons of baritones who have gone beyond that too), timbre and tessitura tell it. Leto is definitely a low tenor whereas singers like Geddy Lee, Chang Yu-Sheng or Michael Jackson are high tenors.

  • @GoodGuitarSolos I see... Well, he rocks any way xD I often confuse the modern names with more lyrical names, I associate high with first and low with second tenors... Although as you've explained it's not the case. Thanks a lot for that! I really appreciate having good discussions and learning in Youtube =P

  • @gabrielcenteio It is nice to discuss these things! If you want to learn more, the forum called The Range Place (vocal forum) has more to offer.

  • @smhri I do know Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan well, he is an incredible singer.

Why would I have posted a note which is in higher pitch? He sounded very good "lower" too, that takes skills. This is MY compilation of notes I personally find good. Why get so upset because of a personal compilation?

Ass? Your post actually made you seem like the asshole here.

  • i think robert plant hit a high f sharp in communication breakdown

  • Steve Perry ALL THE WAY!!! Love him to death <333

  • @trapezemit

I agree, many screamers, though many greats.

I would like to see this video done with live performances. Steve Perry, during his prime years, had amazing vocal power commanded with ease and a controlled smooth vibrato. He made every attempt to reproduce ‘studio’ vocals live without compromise and sometimes surpassed them without screaming. It's what separates the greats from the greatest.

  • @KarmicOmen

Yep, phenomenal! I think he can be classified as tenor altino.

  • That first guy when he's wailing sounds a lot like Geddy Lee during the early years.

  • Geddy's high notes during Cygnus X1 should have been included.
