you should not use straps. You are only as strong as your weakest link, If you dont have the grip strenght to lift your weights you need to train you grip, and whey you use straps you wont be training your grip strenght. A strong underarm usually means a strong biceps, because these muscles are connected. For instance when you do biceps curl, u should alway sqwise your hands into the bar and tighten you ass and abs, then you get more effect out of your biceps.
@oistein1337 understood and agreed, however, this is an isolation bodybuilding movement. I already perform heavy deadlifts, squats, benches, high pulls, snatches, power cleans, etc... and have for decades. to every rule there is an exception.
hhhmmmm, its not the safest way because you are introducing balancing on the bench which is an extra risk of over balancing off the bench and your hands are tied to the bells!! not to mention that your spine still takes the same weight as standing. the same.
@vinesboyseventysix that's the point, to create instability. this forces you to pay attention. after watching hundreds of men ruin their shoulders performing traditional shrugs I came up with an approach of beautiful isolation without injury. the line through the spine is entirely different than standing you you do the exercise correctly. I'm injury free after 40 years of heavy hard training!
