THE Mr Big behind the syringe bomb airline attack boasts a 300-strong terrorist army plotting more atrocities.

Officials in Yemen last night warned the West to brace itself for carnage after unearthing the terror cell of highly trained fanatics all willing to die for Islam.

The Muslim mob is controlled by Naser Abdel Karim al-Wahisi, also known as Abu Basir, who security forces believe ordered the blowing-up of a Detroit-bound passenger jet with almost 300 people on board on Christmas Day.

He was among 23 al-Qaida activists to escape from a Yemeni jail three years ago.

Western security services now have him at No 1 on their hit list, with a multi-million pound bounty on his head.

Earlier this year he merged the terror networks operations in Yemen and Saudi Arabia and declared himself leader.

He was supported by former Guantanamo Bay inmates Muhamad Attik al-Harbi and Said Ali Shari, who are thought to have supplied suspected jet bomber Umar Abdulmutallab with explosives and taught him how to use them.

All three appeared together in an al-Qaida video released in January in which they vowed to drive infidels out of the Arabian peninsula.

The terror network has claimed responsibility for the attempt to blow up the Northwest Airlines jet as it landed in Detroit.

Ex-British university student Abdulmutallabs alleged bid to use a syringe to detonate 80g of explosives sewn into his underpants failed.

Even though no-one was hurt, al-Qaida chiefs hailed the 23-year-old Nigerian, now facing a life sentence, as a hero and martyr.

Last night Yemeni foreign minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi warned about the 300 more al-Qaida militants, including at least 25 Brits, planning terror attacks from his country.

He appealed for more help from the international community to train and equip counter-terrorist forces to root them out.

Dr al-Qirbi said: Of course there are a number of al-Qaida operatives in Yemen and some of their leaders. We realise this danger.

Dr al-Qirbi said the US, Britain and the European Union could do a lot to improve Yemens response to militants on its own soil. He added: We need more training. We have to expand our counter-terrorism units and provide them with equipment and transportation like helicopters.

Last night Muslim firebrand Anjem Choudary confirmed there were 25 Brits in Yemeni terror training camps plotting more attacks.

There are lots of people in Britain that have a lot of sympathy with al-Qaida and jihad, he said.

If you speak to MI5, Special Branch or the CIA, or listen to the tapes of al-Qaida, everyone is singing the same tunes more attacks are inevitable.

An internal review of Britains regional counter terrorism response was under way last night.

It will check that units set up in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and London are working properly to identify potentially dangerous radicals plotting atrocities similar to the plane bombing.
