  • Yuck, the laughter was disgusting. I wonder how any people in the room who have spinocerebellar ataxia must have felt.

I admire the research, but God people are f-ing numb.

  • I also wondered...

    It wasnt so funny :\

  • @mlor023 Experiments are never funny. That's why we don't do "direct" experiments on humans.

  • 10 peoples were laughing at this video. . .

  • Ever sat through a lecture on CAG repeats and its relationship on dynamic mutations such as Huntington's SCA? Of course you haven't because you would appreciate a "break" in lecture to see cute mice fall off a wheel.

  • @EatSleepGlee Sorry are we talking about them being "f-ing numb" or lacking in a little tact? Either way their response is not inappropriate. I'm afraid you're the one whos taken the reaction way out of context. This is a lecture hall not a room full of patients. Every single thing biomed students learn about involves a health problem that affects peoples lives. Thats my point. I found this vid for revision purposes and it angered me to see such a ridiculous statement getting so much support.

  • @Davesimo1 who's talking about them walking through life being sad? we're talking about their reactions to this video, not being solemn their entire lives because they are students. that's nonsense. more important, how are you equating tact to morosity. THAT'S moronic. we're talking about their reactions to THIS video. i never said you claimed SCA was funny. within the context of the subject matter, laughing at someone (human/nonhuman) afflicted with SCA fall isn't an appropriate response.

  • @EatSleepGlee firstly i have said that SCA is clearly NOT funny. Also i'm almost certain nobody in that room had SCA. They were students. I'm sure they were also unaware at the time that the video would be posted on YT and be seen by people with SCA or who know someone that does. So should medical or biomedical students be morosely wandering through their lives being sad about everything they ever do? Being offended does not grant your opinion any special considerations. It's still moronic

  • @Davesimo1 it's cute to see a mouse falling off of a beam because his cerebellum is deteriorating? i wonder how cute and funny it is to see a 15 month old stumble around because he has a degenerative brain disorder. no matter how dry a lecture is, the situation is sad. i totally agree with skanemermaid

  • i just watch 1 Litre of Tears... and so i research spinocerebellar degenaration disease.... and its not funny.. even in animals.... ;(

  • Lectures, particularly in a field of science, can be quite dry and students will react more readily to a rat falling off a rotating beam in slow motion...its funny and cute. Obviously spinocerebellar ataxia isn't funny and cute. Christ - some of you need to get over yourselves particularly those that thumbed up skanemermai's silly comment

  • people are laughing at the MOUSE not staying on the rotarod i fail to see how that is remotely the same thing as laughing at people with spinocerebellar ataxia given that rotarod isn't confined to testing motor function in that disease.
