This year, Gene-ex went to South Korea to meet his girlfriend Minji. A few days before his journey began, me, Otto and Elendur had a little surprise for him. In total secrecy, we had been planning a surprise goodbye party for him. And we succeeded in the surprise, oh yes. He didn't see this coming at all.

We lured him to the city, where supposedly he had to take some pictures of a recently bought car. We needed to get the key of this guy who lived above a restaurant. Elendur made a fake phone call, and we walked towards the restaurant. We could see people walking past the windows on the upper floor.
Those were probably the people that lived there. And although we had no idea who they were we pointed them out to Gene and waved to those people - "that's them". We couldn't of course find the entrance, so we went into the restaurant. "Probably the access is through the restaurant" we reasoned to Gene.

We went in, and I walked to the bar, telling the others to wait there while I asked them. I walked up to the guy behind the bar and said:"Table for 4 please" "Right this way sir!" and the guy showed us the way.

We sat down, took our coats off and looked at the menu. Gene was still looking at us, and at the waiter.
"So, we wait until your friend comes down?" "Nah" we said, "welcome to your goodbye party". We laughed like hell, and Gene still needed time to digest this news. He asked us a few questions, like "so there is no friend, and there is no car?" Nope Gene, it was just to trick you.

We ate, and gave him the schedule of that nights' activities. But it said nothing solid, only that we would do "stuff" at certain timestamps. And this way we took him to the cinema where we watched a movie.

After that, we went deep into the forest. While we drove there, we told him all kinds of scary scenarios of what he had to do. Climb a tree, dig up a grave, blablabla. He didn't know what to believe after a while.
We parked the car somewhere, and from there it was still a 5 minute walk to our destination: an open field. There we put Gene in weird clothes. We put very short pants on him, and wrapped his torso in isolation foil, put a towel over his shoulder and let him hold a sponge up high. "What is this all for?" Gene asked us? "We'll show you after we take this picture" we said.

And so we took the pictures and bursted out in laughter. Then, we showed him what we were there for.
I had some fireworks with me. We lit them up, but the Korean Sky High Goodbye was still in the trunk.
As was it supposed to be. Gene knew nothing. We lit some fireworks and concluded it was a very nice party.

Thinking it was all over, we walked back to the car. During the 5 minutes it took us to get to the car, Gene told us how surprised he was, and that we should have another drink at home. We all agreed. So we got into the car, and Elendur acted like the car wouldn't start. Him, Otto and me rushed out of the car, and gave it our "professional" inspection. Soon we would end up opening the trunk. And there she was, our beautiful creation. Gene was speechless. He never expected this.

So we made the long walk back to that field, and lighted the fuse. And it was amazing. The fuses did take some time in between the different kinds of fireworks, but it worked out. Nothing went off prematurely, and that was a big bonus. The next time we create something like this, we will work on the in between time.

I hope you enjoyed this special.
