I was wondering...
I am new to qigong, and I wanted to know how the sounds work... Do they direct qi to a certain area of the body to heal it?

Each organ has its own sound whose resonance regulates/detoxifies the organ systems/associated meridians. The 6 healing sounds will also shift the emotional as well as the physical body for deeper healing. They've been used for over 2000 years and were popular with the Taoist healers/drs.

Yes. Check out the metal element exercises on my DVD, The Spirit of Qi Gong, which are all for healing/strengthening the lungs.

It says it's "Women's Qigong". Does that mean that if I do this particular excercise, it won't be as effective for me?

No. The 6 Healing Sounds and my DVD, The Spirit of Qi Gong, are for everyone. They help to detoxify the organs, clear negative emotions, and regulate your internal system.
My Book, Women's Qigong for Health and Longevity is for women though men can do many of the exercises in there as well, but not for your uterus etc!
