Cher How Long Has This Been Going On (Live)

A little back story about this song.
It was first performed in the musical "Rosalie" in 1927, and was performed by one of Cher's idols, Audrey Hepburn in the 1957 musical "Funny Face," in which she co-starred with Fred Astaire.

Cher recorded the song for her 1972 album, "Bittersweet, White Light," which was produced by her then husband and professional partner, Sonny Bono.




Cher has performed this song four times on television. Her first performance took place on January 17, 1972 on episode #10 of the first season of The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, their guest star for that episode was Kate Smith.
Cher's second performance of the song on television occurred February 21,1973, on episode #39 season 3 of The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, their guest star was Danny Thomas. Cher performed "How Long Has This Been Going On," for the third time on her own variety show, "The Cher Show," March 19, 1975 which was show
number 5 of the first season. Cher's guest stars were Freddie Prinze, Teri Garr and The Pointer Sisters.
Cher sang, "How Long Has This Been Going On" for a fourth and final time on television of Sunday March 7th, 1976 on The Sonny and Cher Show. This was episode six of their post divorce variety show and their guest star that night was McLean Stevenson of Mash.
This is obviously one of Cher's favorite songs to sing and she does a great job. Cher recorded "How Long Has This Been Going On" for her "Bittersweet White Light" album from 1972 which was remastered and rereleased with additonal songs added in 1999 as "Bittersweet The Love Song Collection." This recording is from the January 17, 1972 episode of The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, this is Cher's live version of "How Long Has This Been Going On."

@chermaster85 She is a great entertainer, I used to watch the Sonny and Cher tv show, than I sew her twice on stage doing her last tour. She was still sensational.

I agree...most of the old time songs were released on Bitterweet White Light, later titled Love songs.

Personally i think these kind of live performances of old standards, are Cher's BEST work. What a shame there has never been an LP or cd with a selection of these diamonds...

This is one of her best standard songs, she performed it on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and The Sonny & Cher Show, as well. Actually, Cher wore the beautiful outfit you are showing while performing "Am I Blue?" on her solo series, in episode #4 featuring guests; Cloris Leachman and Jack Albertson.
