'Trouble O Soul' was specifically written with Mr Edwin Starr in mind early 2003. I had met him a couple of times over the years and was pleased to hear that he liked some of my material. I love his early work with Detroit's Ric Tic records and the catchy numbers he would write were an inspiration to me. Nobody else could come up with titles like SOS, Headline news, Happy radio etc like he could!

I had the notion that although 'Agent OO Soul' is a great track and timeless, it would be something to write a similar tongue in cheek song but with lyrics that showcase the immense technology advancements we are experiencing these days and indeed over the last 40+ years. If James Bond can move along with the times, I am sure if we are in danger, we can call on 'Trouble O Soul'. I sent the track to Mr Starr's management and I am not certain he had the chance to hear it as he was busy with recording and touring Germany. After the very sad passing of Mr Starr, I sent the track to Tom Jones's management as I felt he had the power in his voice to carry this song and it would have been a lovely tribute to Edwin Starr. Throughout the song there are countless innuendoes about Motown songs and secret information about my growing up in Hull, particularly to comics I read and TV programmes I viewed in my childhood. Therefore the lyrics protect my copyright as well as been entertaining! The demo has many versions and the longest being about 15minutes showcases the rhythm section and another verse/melody to break away from the signature licks in the song. Martin Smith, my ex neighbour provided the vocals and bearing in mind this is the first thing he has ever recorded, it is excellent. Of course his Scottish accent breaks through which gives it that 'British' secret service attitude just like Sean Connery. Backing vocals were done by our good friend Ali and Martin again. The track still needs work, but is shelved until someone knocks on the door.
