@phenomfarm --Well, then I'm sure you're right. And I feel proud you're so passionate about Peruvian horses, since I'm from Peru. However, I insist, I wish this video would have shown a Peruvian Paso doing the gait, because many people do not understand it very well. I may post a video of my last visit to a Hacienda in Lima (in Mamacona) where you can see some Paso horses doing what they do best. Well, thanks for the information, I do take your comment as a learning lesson. ;-)

@musmuki24 -Yes, they can naturally trot, and its not any harder for them to trot vs paso llano. Its not something desired or encouraged under saddle, but trotting uses different muscles & can strengthen their topline. I've been riding, showing & breeding Peruvian horses for 25 years,currently have 9 on my ranch, incl 4 US National champions & high point winners- They all trot at times. Search for FCY Vandalo -there is video of this same horse gaiting perfectly winning in Peru

@phenomfarm --Just like I said to Zerenei before, of course they can trot, but they don't naturally do it, it is actually harder for them to do it. What they do is what it's called PASO LLANO, and they can vary it to trot, but it's not their original tendency. Anyway, this horse may (or not) be a Paso Peruano, but my point is (like I said in my comment to Zerenei, please read) is that THIS VIDEO should either show this so-called Peruvian Paso doing the gait or call this video something else.

@musmuki24 Your statement is incorrect. All Peruvian horses can trot naturally, just like the gallop. Its not a gait that we encourage under saddle, but at liberty most Peruvians from time to time will exhibit a trot. This stallion is a wonderful example of the breed - very strong, well gaited, lots of brio. I have had the pleasure to test ride him , at his last show where he was retired at 15 years of age, winning champion of champions breeding stallion.

@Zerenei --I believe you, but what I was saying is that they don't naturally do it.. and my point is that this video shouldn't have been tagged as "caballos de paso" because it doesn't show the beauty and natural skills of the Paso Horse.. Btw, wooow! Six Peruvian Paso Horses? They must be beautiful!! I love horses.. ;-)

The Peruvian Paso Horse never, EVER trots, so I don't understand who tagged this video as such. As Wikipedia says, "the Peruvian Paso Horse is a breed of light pleasure saddle horse known for its smooth ride. It is distinguished by a natural, four-beat, lateral gait called the paso llano." They are not taught to do so, they're born like that: Purebred foals can be seen gaiting alongside their dams within a few hours of their birth. If you see them trot, they are NOT Peruvian Paso horses!!

This promotion does the whole breed a disservice. It only shows the stallion galloping and trotting, yet the breed is known for its smooth, lateral gait. Why not at least include video of the horse gaiting? !
