Chomsky talking about the difference between the understanding of world events as compared to the British.
..."often it was National radio and TV, a couple of times it turned out to be Irish Television & BBC back to back & the difference in reaction was Startling, I said 'This much' on Irish TV: OK, and discussion is over everyone understands what I talking about, I try to say in on BBC & you have to gone on about if for an hour to explain to them what you mean. The Irish sea is a kasem it just l depends who is is under the whip for 800 years and who was under it for 800 years and the same is true everywhere else in the world'. This is from the documentary "rebel with out a pause", which can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv4IBJmzulM . • could you upload the rest. This sounds like a really interesting subject hes talking about.

  • @WastedTourist wrote - "whats he talking about here"

"He who learns must suffer" -- Aeschylus. The inverse is "ignorance is bliss". The Irish have suffered. They have learned. It didn't take much explanation on the part of Chomsky for them to understand what he was talking about.

  • You need to re-write the summary.

  • @roryphelan

    Correct!

  • @tom6612 Excellent explanation.

  • How about more video for some context. Unfortunately our mainstream radio and television discussion on general events is still very conservative. When it comes to the economy it's still very capitalist centric, maybe reformist capitalist e.g. "We must regulate the banks better!" with the assumption that we maintain capitalism. Little to no discussion of alternative systems.

  • What's he talking about here?
