I've had requests to use Coghlan's Fuel Tablets in the canteen cup stove so in this video I do another boil test using this combination. I also show a modification (Mod I) I've made for my Canteen Cup Stove.
Lab0084 was the previous test I did using Esbit with the canteen cup stove. In that test the water (2 cups starting at 60°) never did reach boiling (212°). That might have been because the Esbit was to low from the bottom of the canteen cup. My Mod I takes care of that.
You can see Lab0084 - "Canteen Cup Stove using Esbit" at:

  • Did you see the new and improved canteen stand at canteen shop . com ?

  • Yes I have. I'll have to test one sometime. Hint, hint. ;-)

  • Much better results that the previous Goghs tests.. Nicely done.

  • Yes, I was very surprised with the results. It might have something to do with the hardware cloth providing more airflow to aid the burn. I'll have to look at that with other burners.

  • Thank you.

  • I like the potstands. I made a simpler form without the esbit stand underneath that works great with an alcohol stove. I might steal your design.

  • impressive, 5 1/2 minutes.

  • HIRAM LOVE THE TEST vids. I bought surplus ( warped & distorted) stoves. So to make the warped surplus canteen stoves usable; I hammered them back into shape on a canteen. This lead me to rolling/peeniing the stove top over. this reduces the diameter/size of the canteen support edge. Combined with rotating the canteen 180 degrees it seems to work well & nothing else to carry or lose or misplace. Thanks for the tests again.

  • @canteencorner That would great! I am looking forward to those tests! Warmly, Laurie

  • @hiramcook Yes that soap test would be very informative!

  • HIram great test! I was wondering does an esbit cube leave us much residue as the coghlans? Also, have you ever done a test on a stainless kleen kanteen bottle or Guyot lying 'horizontally' on an esbit stove with a tealight alcohol stove or esbit cube. I've heard it heats much faster that way and you can even heat it with the cap on if you leave space in the bottle. I would love to see you test that theory. Until then...celebrate life! Laurie

  • Once the new kits are out with My Stoves and the Heavy Cover Lid I will send you a Full set up to Try hiramcook. Shoot me an email or pm so I know where to ship it.
