Actually, coal is a very efficient fuel. A lump of coal has 50 times the energy of either solar of wind on a comparable basis. Engineering technology cleans the effluent produced by the coal before is is discharged to the atmosphere. These gases are not pollutants. There are atmospheric gases that are required for life on earth. We need more of them in the atmosphere, Including CO2. Not less.

I don't agree with long term continued use of coal, but I also don't agree with destroying the reputation nor the livelihood of the hardworking people (the laborers and technicians, etc.) who provide so much of our nation's energy. If it's to be done, it needs to be done gradually and without pointing fingers.
