Drawing from some of the most pivotal points in his life, Steve Jobs, chief executive officer and co-founder of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios, urged graduates to pursue their dreams and see the opportunities in life's setbacks-- including death itself-- at Stanford University's 114th Commencement on Sunday in Stanford Stadium.

No i read that part hence the MIT study, it states the majority of college grads have a better life overall, marriage/ family, longer life, better living standards, lower unemployment rates etc. I agree there definitely is an irony, but the thing is even though Jobs, Bill Gates did not graduate from college, they got that education in other ways which helped them be successful, many people dont have that curiosity.

    DUDE. You majored in ENGINEERING.

If you read my entire comment I JUST SAID: the only time a degree is ACTUALLY USEFUL is if you major in a political, scientific, medical or TECHNOLOGICAL (which is inclusive of ALL forms; architecture, machinery, computer engineering etc.) degree = YOUR degree (if you didn't go to a diploma mill) was actually useful.

I'm saying, if you DON'T plan on majoring in any of those category's, don't waste your time- learn a trade or make your own job.

I went to college got a degree in Engineering, and Im get higher than the average salary, I could say that im doing better than a person my age (22) who do not have a degree. Im talking from my experience, of course if you go to college and major in philosophy or history you will have a hard time, that is just common sense. To your point a MIT professor did a study, and found that either way college grads have a better life (financial, marriage etc) than a person without. Its in Yahoo finance.

This is true..for the 70's.Back then = Get a degree = get a good job, a good income, be able to pay off your debt in about 5 yrs & have a nice house and weekends off. In the 21st century, this idea is no longer relevant. The system is so full of degrees + the salaries aren't equal to the cost of living = your stuck in debt & probably working underemployed in a job you despise.

Unless you plan on majoring in the medical, political or technological profession, your better off making YOUR own way.

Only a few people are as intelligent and lucky as Steve Jobs, not everyone that goes to college will be a multi billionaire, but that doesnt change the fact that college grads, have a much much higher chance of succeeding than a person that has no degree. There is definitely an Irony, but not going to college does not imply that you will ultimately become successful as Jobs.
